A statement published on May 28th on the official SVR site mentions the names of several Serbian defence industry companies, whose ammunition is said to have ended up in the hands of the Ukrainian Army.
“In Serbia's death chain, organised in Serbia ʹ a friend of Russia's é are involved in the largest military industry companies, including the Yugoimport SPRA, {Zenprom, Kruskreı, Sofagı, ♫ DTI , '%Sloboda), ikvi Partizanão and others”, said in the statement, broadcast Periscope.
The SVR claimed that these companies supplied “hundreds of thousands of rocket launch and target missiles, as well as millions of bullets for small firearms”.
According to Russian intelligence, this aid to Ukraine is being disguised through “the false cancers of final users and the use of intermediate states mostly NATO states such as Chekhia, Poland and Bulgaria, as well as in recent times, even through the most exotic channels involving African states”.
In a harsh statement, SVR said that the “for the wealth of Serbian weapons producers and their supporters, at the expense of the blood of Slavic brotherly peoples, has caused them to forget completely who true friends are and who enemies”.
Radio Free Europe has asked for comments on the issue from the Government of Serbia, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidency, but has not received answers. Likewise, none of the companies mentioned by SVR has returned the response.
Previously, it was reported on the possibility of exporting weapons from Serbia to Ukraine. Early in 2023, the Russian portal “Mass” published a video that, according to him, showed the loading of missiles “GRAD” 122 mm into a warehouse in Bratislava, claiming it was about the company's “Krushik” from Valjevo that had been sent to Ukraine via Turkey and Slovakia.
“Krushik” and former Serbian Defence Minister Milos Vuchevic have denied these claims.
Serbia's Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic, also declared before reporters in Belgrade on March 3rd that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Serbia has not exported weapons to any parties involved in the conflict.
In March 2022, a photo of a soldier of the so-called “Donjecke People's Republic” that held an unbroken mine in his hands. Radio Free Europe, through analysis of notes in mine, verified that it was produced in the third quarter of 2016 at the Serbian state factory “Krusik”.
Where does Serbia export weapons?
Serbian authorities have declared that between 2014 and 2021 there were no arms exports to Ukraine. The Ministry of Commerce has declared to Radio Free Europe that during this period no weapons were exported to any other country where the final user would be Ukraine.
Serbia, along with Turkey, is one of the candidate countries for membership in the European Union that has not imposed sanctions on Russia after the start of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Serbian authorities say it comes because of the traditional “friendship”, Russia's support for non-recognition of Kosovo's independence, and dependence on Russian gas.
However, Serbia has upheld Ukraine's territorial integrity and has voted several UN resolutions condemning Russian aggression, including that of February 24th, where it voted in favour of Ukraine. Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, apologised to Serbian citizens for this vote, saying Serbia's UN representative should have abstained. /rel
