US President Donald Trump has declared that peace talks in Ukraine will not have progress without a direct meeting between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump's comments come at a time when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticised Russia for sending what he called the sub-help “to Turkey's peace talks. On the other hand, Moscow has earlier confirmed that President Putin will not personally participate in these negotiations.
Look, nothing will happen until Putin and I meet. Okay? And he certainly wouldn't go. He was going, but he thought I was going. He wouldn't go if I wasn't there and I don't think anything would happen, whether you like it or not, until he and I meet,” said Trump. “But we'll have to solve it, because a lot of people are dying. ”
Trump's statement adds tensions to a delicate moment for international efforts to stop the war in Ukraine, and highlights the role he claims to have in a possible solution to the conflict. /Periscope/
