Threats to President Osmani, Security Group urges immediate action

The Gender Security and Equality Group through a media response has strongly condemned the recent death threats against Osmani.

Such fears and threats of this nature are not only attacks on President Osmani as a person but also attacks on democracy, rule of law and the principle of peace and stability.

We call on state institutions, political parties, civil society and media to take immediate and co-ordinated action to protect women in politics and to ensure that they can lead without fear”, they say, in their response.

The Youth Security and Equality Group has further expressed full solidarity with President Osmani and have reconfirmed their firm support for the security, protection and dignity of all public officials, indiscriminately serving with integrity and devotion.

“There is no room for violence or intimidation in democratic societies”, said in response. /Periscope/
