Skenderaj's Battle of Education for Finding Missing Mother in the War

Tafil Hasani, an Albanian-language educator in the village of Klodernica in Sculerwright, has been searching for his mother, missing during the last war in Kosovo. Like many others in Kosovo, Tahiri says he is in a battle that, for every passing day, the pain grows and hope decreases. Mother [...]

Like many others in Kosovo, Tahiri says he is in a battle that, for every passing day, the pain grows and hope decreases.

His mother, about 60 years of age at the time, had disappeared in April 1999, as Serb forces, him and many residents of the village of Klodernica were being forcibly taken and deported to Albania.

April 12th was April 12th, and the day I remember, April 12th and Monday was 1999. That we are captured for the first time on March 27, but for the second time on April 12, Monday was 1999. Even as I remember today, when my mother and my wife told me that you left, because we have nothing to do with the Serbs, we save, but you don't get caught, because you can do more harm to”. And we're away at that moment on the nearby hill, we're headed towards the village of Racinica”, Hasani said about Callo. com, broadcast Periscope.

Even when they came to the school, that's what the Serbs were looking at -- big shots, big promotions, so different calibres. They're in school. Even when they entered school, they were taken out of school and sent to Albania. Men are divided on one side, women are divided into one. Whoever could walk, who could walk, my wife was my fourth child, my mother. But he was also my brother and his wife, having children. He too has been together, but they have started on foot for Albania, and the mother has been with some other elders, who have been able to travel, have even stepped onto tractors and started their way to Albania. That first case I told you, he's been somewhere on his way to Albania”.

Tahiri claims that his mother stayed in Cline one night, after which nothing is known of her destiny.

According to him, it is suspected that she was last alive was seen in the country known as the “Multer of Jasanica”, a location on Skenderaj kli.

And she's probably saying one night she's got it in Kline, when all these other refugees have passed, it's one night in Kline. But now they're back, there's no more serious crime than to get them out of the house, so they're going back, but it's right at Yashanica's mill, there's no more serious crime there than to get them out of the house, which is to go to sleep in the wild, eating, without drinking, with fear, with stress, that's a greater crime. Even the greatest genocide does not know where it could have been, than how to inflict a violent death, an early death” claims Hasan.

“100% That's where I doubt, in that hole. For I have been told by the eyewitnesses since they passed through certain people, that they offered her bread, because my mother had three old ladies there. Even when they offered her any bread, she told her not to give us bread because dogs are eating us at night, and they're eating us too. So they haven't even received help from someone because of the trauma, due to the crisis, because of the horror caused by Serbia”.

With the constant hope of finding her, at least her body, Tahiri after the end of the war had gone all the way to Albania looking for her mother, but without success.

His mother never found him until now.

I've been going to ask the witnesses, so some locals there, in that part of Jasanica, I've asked some “there's some suspicious graves somewhere around” that don't know it or that someone buried it, and they don't know who it was buried, I've been going to talk to some people, some villagers there, but they haven't given me any explanation, they don't have a day, Tafil Hasani said.

I was also in Albania, just June 20th. I've been to the Kukes Hospital, because according to eyewitnesses, they said some were left in the hospital. Even when I said it was my family's war, but everyone's back, except for Nana, she's back, and I doubt I've been left here by accident, and I just came by and looked at her, said "No one is." So after you came from there, he said, "Come and look at the hospital." And I went into some hospital rooms, and I found out, because they were in hospitals in flat beds, but I couldn't find it.

Tafil Hasani has not surrendered. He has prepared a lawsuit against the Serbian state for crimes committed in the village and against his family.

Although his indictment was rejected in 2017, he says he is preparing the indictment to be handed over to Kosovo courts once again.

In the meantime, at the 14th and 15,05.2025 Kosovo authorities, including Pristina Police, Prosecutor's, the IML and the Government Commission for the Unagent, have conducted research in Pristina's “Arberia”, where three people allegedly belonging to the last war in Kosovo have been found.

With 11 IDs recently carried out in March, currently under the Government Commission for the Property in Kosovo, there are also 1,577 persons considered missing from the last war in Kosovo.

Kosovo's Statistics Agency in the recent population census said 1,047 persons have disappeared from the war, were injured 6,682, imprisoned 3,312, and subjected to torture, violence, psychological consequences 193,765 people.

While according to the Fund for Humanitarian Law data in Kosovo, 1,636 people are still considered missing.

In December 2024, Kosovo and Serbia had agreed to full implementation for the Declaration of Undiscovered Persons.

This Joint Declaration between the two countries was adopted in May 1923, within Dialogue and contained vows such as full access to reliable information, between them and those with classified status; making all relevant documents available for determining the fate of missing persons, and joint work through a Commission headed by the European Union. /Periscope/
