There's a new moment in the enlargement process. Our further efforts towards membership should be guided by two fundamental principles: consistency and trust.
Consistency from the European Union, in maintaining enlargement as a top political priority. And consisting of partners, in sharing with our values and in implementing reforms.
Faith can only be built through open dialogue. Within countries of the region, between partners, and EU institutions and member states”.
And Ursula von der Leyeen writes in her reaction
“in Tirana for the European Policy Community Summit.
This is the first meeting in the Western Balkans.
A powerful symbol.
Our European family of values extends far beyond the borders of the European Union.
We share a continent. And a common future”.
The European Policy Community Summit aims to strengthen co-operation between EU states and those outside it, creating a common space for discussions on issues like:
The security and stability of the region, including the war in Ukraine and its consequences, as well as crisis management and possible security risks.
Economic development, providing opportunities for growth and cooperation in sectors such as energy, trade, and technology.
Energy issues and energy supply security, especially in the context of energy uncertainty that has been increased because of the war in Ukraine and the consequences this war has on global energy markets.
This meeting is important for the Western Balkans, as it shows the Union's commitment to including this region in Europe's political and economic processes. Participants include leaders of Western Balkan countries, as well as those of other European countries, including many states that are not part of the EU, such as Turkey, Ukraine, and Middle Eastern states.
The meeting is also an opportunity to highlight Europe's common values and promote a common future for all states that share these values, including freedom, democracy and human rights. /Periscope/
