He said Serbia “should root out corruption, reform its judicial, media and electoral laws, improve relations with Kosovo, and approach its foreign policies with those of the bloc, including imposing sanctions against Russia because of Ukraine's invasion”.
“A key element of our common foreign and security policy is the clear condemnation of Ukraine's brutal occupation by Russia and support for Ukraine in achieving a just and lasting peace”, Costa said, Reuters.
Vucciqi travelled to Russia on May 8th and 9th for a parade marking the 80th anniversary of World War II victory. He also met there with Russia's leader, Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
After meeting with Antonio Costan, Vuciqi said Belgrade wants to accelerate its European integration and open more negotiating chapters with the bloc.
“Atmosphera (in the EU), ... is not quite excellent, I am convinced because of the trip to Moscow, but ... I believe Europe will have understanding of the progress based on the merit of”, he said.
Serbian President Vuciq's visit to Moscow on May 9th was “a tribute to the past”, but Serbia is the fully dedicated “on the road to the European Union, European Council President Antonio Costa said during his visit to Belgrade, according to BGNES, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
The European Union repeatedly warned Vucinqiqi not to travel to Russia, with which Belgrade maintains close ties, but he still went to Moscow to participate in the parade commemorating his victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.
“You cannot celebrate the release 80 years ago without condemning the invasion of a country today”, Costa added, making a clear reference to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which Belgrade has condemned while refusing to sever ties with Russia. /Periscope/
