Kosovo has marked the biggest decline in the last 15 years in the organisation's annual press freedom index Reporters Without Borders, ranking 99th in the world from 180 states, follows Periscope.
This is the second consecutive year that Kosovo marks decline, as it fell from 56th to 75th in 2024.
In this regard, reaction has come from Kosovo media lawyer Butteran Kusari.
The Kusari through a post on the social network on Facebook has burdened some of the reasons for this decline.
Political attacks on journalists specifically mention the groundless accusations against journalists that if they co-operate with the enemy, Kosovo'sRadio Television, Law on the Independent Commission for Media, Bosnia and Herzegovina against the media prior to the elections, the failure to implement the Law on Access to Public Documents, Journalists' Observation, Police and Prosecutors investigate the cases, but do not freeze the indictment, Strategic Court Against Public Participation are some of the reasons according to Kusari.
Kosovo has been the champion of media freedom in the Balkans and is now the country ranked lowest, it has added further.
)
Kosovo has dropped 24 positions in the World Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index.
Kosovo is ranked 99th near Angola, Mozambique and Mongolia, all three countries that have improved.
According to data that I pulled out of the same index, this is the lowest position in which Kosovo was convicted in the last decade, so by 2015.
The reasons for this dramatic decline are:
Political problems against journalists are specifically cited without grounds to journalists as if they co-operate with the enemy
Kosovo Radio Television
Law for Independent Media Commission
media threat before elections
Disregarding the Law on Access to Public Documents
Journalists' Monitoring
Police and prosecutors investigate cases but do not freeze charges
Strategic Plans Against Public Participation
Kosovo has been the champion of media freedom in the Balkans. Now it's the lowest position.
The positions of countries in the region in the released index today are:
Eagle 80
Bosnia and Herzegovina 86
Macedonia 42
Montenegro 37
Serbia 96
