According to the Ukraine Automotive Manufacturers Association, sales of electric vehicles have been steadily increased during February and March, with Tesla keeping first place in the used electric market.
The decline in global prices, as a result of aggressive competition by Chinese producers, has made Tesla models more affordable to many Ukrainians.
“In the past, I couldn't imagine buying a Tesla,” says Anatolia Trepak, a taxi driver in Kiev. But now, for $18,000, I got it, and it's all I wanted, a big step out of my old Skoda. ”
Bohdan, a car dealer in a known Ukrainian capital car, points out: “Two or three years ago, the Tesla used was not sold under 40,000 dollars. Today, for 20,000 you can get a good car.” He adds that the decline of financial barriers has brought a new wave of buyers.
Meanwhile, in the West, the company's reputation has been hit by reactions to its owner, Elon Musk, for political attitudes and contractive posts on the social X network. In Kiev, a cartoon with Moose's face is placed across the wall like an ironic message. The “stands there to think about its behavior,” says Bahdan with a smile.
However, many Ukrainians, such as Trepak, separate the car from the owner. I appreciate what he created, but now it's a separate chapter. I bought a car, not an ideology,” he says.
While Tesla faces serious challenges in major markets due to competition and publicly hurt image, increasing demand in unexpected markets like Ukraine shows that its potential remains alive, especially when the price makes technology more accessible. /Periscope
