Rama: Anti-corruption Commission to Continue Work, Key Role for EU Integration

Prime Minister Edi Rama has confirmed today that the Parliamentary Special Commission for Good governance, Anti-Corruption and Rule of Law will continue his work in the next legislature, naming it a key element in Albania's integration process in the European Union.

At the “summit Albania 2030 in the EU ʹRule of Reforms”, organised by Albania's Parliament, Rama stressed the importance of continuing reforms and consolidating achievements in the process.

Everything is still fragile, and therefore we need the European Union. At any cost and at any cost, we must enter that door that has opened today as an opportunity not only real but current”, the prime minister said.

According to him, Albania has a concrete opportunity to close negotiations by the end of 2027, but for that it needs to move swiftly and concentrately. “The history of enlargement shows that that door opens and that door closes,” warned Rama.

Rama underlined that the work of the Special Commission will play a key role in meeting the necessary reforms. “This Commission is essential to enable not only EU entry, but also its position as a country with a consolidation process of individual freedom and equality guarantees before the law,” said.

He stressed that only through the system of rule of law and EU integration can the guarantee of rights and freedoms of Albanian citizens be achieved. There is no individual freedom and equality before the law anywhere else but within the EU,” said Rama.

The prime minister also spoke of reforms in public procurement, citing efforts to implement an artificial intelligence-based system. “We are working to create a revolutionary model of artificial intelligence for public procurement, in co-operation with Microsoft and the Mira Murati group,”, he announced.

According to Rama, this system will largely eliminate human intervention in procurement processes, downplaying opportunities for corruption. “We believe that next year we will have a model where 95% of the public procurement process will be conducted without human intervention, bringing corruption to this sector towards zero,” he said.

Rama recalled that the establishment of the Special Commission was an answer to the major challenges the negotiations process with the EU presents. The Albanian government does not negotiate with the EU, but the entire Albanian state,”, he said.

According to him, Parliament is the most appropriate institution to maintain this co-ordinating role. “Nowhere other than the Albanian Parliament can be found that national interaction space in the function of achieving the long-awaited outcome for our nation,”, Rama concluded./Periscopi/
