The Vatican announced earlier today details of the Pope's funeral ceremony, after the cardinals' meeting.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 10: 00 a.m., and will mark the beginning of a nine - day mourning period. The funeral ceremony will be held in open space, ahead of St. Peter's Basilica.
The funeral ceremony will chair the dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Giovanni Batista Re. At the end of the service, Cardinal Re will hold the final prayer with which the late pope is officially handed over to God and immediately thereafter the body will be transported to the funeral at Santa Maria Maggior.
According to Sky News, after the end of this mourning period, the formal process of electing the new pope will begin in May.
At the same time, the Vatican confirmed that the Pope's body will be transferred tomorrow morning, from 9 to St. Peter's Basilica for public worship, which will last until Friday. /Periscope/
