Farell, Irish-American, was appointed Camerlengo of the Roman Church in 2019 by Pope Francis himself. In this role, he is responsible for the Vatican leadership during the period “Sede Vacante”, until the election of the new pope, reports Express newspaper, Transmitt Periscope.
He will organise the treaty of cardinals to select the pope's descendants as well as official mourning ceremonies, including solemn burial at St. Peter's Basilica.
Who is Cardinal Farell?
Born in 1947 in Dublin, Ireland, Kevin Farell studied at the University of Salamanca in Spain and later at the University of Papnor Gregorian in Rome. During his spiritual ministry, he has held roles on four sides of the world from Mexico, where he served as a university hat, to the U.S., where he spent over 30 years in various church functions.
In 2007, he was appointed bishop of the Dallas Diocese, while in 2016, Pope Francis entrusted the direction of the newly created dictatorship to Lakes, Family, and Life, one of the most important structures for the modern Vatican shepherd. Within the same year, he rose to the rank of cardinal.
In 2023, Pope Francis entrusted Farrell with other weighty tasks as well: he was appointed president of the Vatican City Supreme Court of State and chairman of the Commission for Confidencial Affairs, two institutions closely related to administration and justice within the holy city.
While preparations for the treaty are on the verge, the role of Cardinal Farell as Camerlengo will be essential to ensuring a fair and transparent process of passing power within the Catholic Church.
Historically, only two cameralengo were later elected pope, Pope Leon XII in 1878 and Pope Pius XII in 1939, however, speculations about the possible names of Francisco's descendants have already begun, and the world's eye has returned from the Vatican.
The weekly ceremony for Pope Francescu is expected to take place Wednesday morning, as the Catholic world launches a new chapter in its history. /Periscope/
