Zelensky hopes for “strong measures” from the US if Russia accepts ceasefire proposal

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky said he believes Kyiv “can expect the United States to take “strong measures against Russia if Moscow refuses the ceasefire proposal agreed on by Ukraine and the US on Tuesday, CNN reports. “According to what I understand, we can expect strong steps. “According to what I understand, we can expect strong steps. I don't know the details, but we're talking about relevant sanctioning measures and strengthening Ukraine”, Zelensky said.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Zelensky said Ukraine accepted a 30-day US-proposed ceasefire that would include a ban on fighting in the sea, in the air and on land.
He said this period would be used to determine the conditions of a future peace agreement, including what kind of security guarantees can be provided by Ukraine's Western allies.
Everything depends on Russia. The US took steps, Ukraine made its position clear. Now Russia must respond to”, the Ukrainian leader said at the Kyiv press conference.
Zelensky was asked several times what would happen if Russia broke the 30-day ceasefire, but he gave no concrete answers, suggesting that the details of any ceasefire have yet to be determined.
Russia has so far refused to comment on the plan, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who said earlier Wednesday that Moscow is expected to be informed by American officials.
