Kodamala, who works with LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor, said that excessive eating of chips can have serious health consequences.

A 2013 YouGov survey suggested that one third of British children and about half of adults eat potato at least once a day.

As a nation, the British consume six billion potato bags per year, with one ton of chips every three minutes or nearly 100 packages per person.

Experts have stressed that consumption of a daily potato bag is the equivalent of about five liters of cooking oil in the annual diet.

Many packets of chips are rich in fat and salt, which, if consumed overindulgence, can increase the risk of obesity and serious diseases such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
