France and Great Britain are proposing a partial month-long ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, which would include stopping air, sea and energy infrastructure attacks.
In an interview for the French newspaper Le Figaro, French President Emmanuel Macron has declared this, stressing that such a truce will last a month.
Macron is currently trying to develop a European initiative that would ensure that the European continent is not excluded from the agreement between Moscow and Washington.
Therefore, France developed a plan along with Britain during Sunday's summit for Ukraine, because Macro does not believe in a ceasefire that would be signed by Americans and Russians, writes Le Figaro, claiming that, according to the head of the Elysie Palace, Russia wants to demilitarise and humiliate Ukraine.
That is why Macro and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer came up with an alternative proposal.
“A truce in the air, in the sea and in terms of energy infrastructure”, Le Figaro quoted Macro as saying. Such a truce, which would not include fighting on the front, would last a month.
According to the French president, the European peacekeeping force, which has been discussed intensively in recent weeks, will be sent to the ground only later, as negotiations on a full ceasefire are expected to last at least a few more weeks.
In the coming weeks, there will be no European troops on Ukrainian territory”, ensuring Macro, adding that France and Britain want peace, but not at any cost and not without guarantees.
News of the proposed ceasefire comes after negotiations between the United States and the Russian Federation began. However, neither European nor Ukrainian representatives were invited to the negotiations.
US President Donald Trump indicated earlier that he would agree to deploy a European contingent to monitor respect for the ceasefire. However, he rejected the possibility of American soldiers joining such a mission.
