Rutte: What happened in BiH and Kosovo should never happen again

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who is expected today to stay for visit to Kosovo, has said they are in continued communication with the heads of state in Kosovo and with those in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also with Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq that tensions in the region are [...]
He's in an interview for Al Jazeera Balkans, said Kosovo is a very important state, where NATO's presence is strong, through KFOR troops.
Kosovo is a very important country, where NATO has a strong presence through KFOR. It's important that we all engage in this country to be in the best possible situation. There have been elections and we will see how the new government will be formed. All this is part of a normal democratic process, which is good. But throughout the region, the situation is changing. I am in intensive communication, not only with the leaders of Kosovo and with those of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but last week I have also talked with Vuciqi, which next week is expected to be in Brussels soon. Thus, communications are intense for tensions in the region to decrease”.
Speaking of increasing tensions in the region, Rutte said that what happened in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, and in Kosovo until 1999, it must never be repeated again.
Whatever happened in this region, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, and in Kosovo until 1999, should never be repeated. This region has great potential. We want young people living here to stay here, to be successful, to open businesses, to be placed in political and academic circles, to become great artists and to develop this country”, Rutte told Al Jazeera Balkans.
Rutte is expected to stay in Kosovo today, where there will be meetings with state leaders, President Osmani and Prime Minister Kurti.
This is his first visit to Kosovo since taking NATO's lead in October last year. He will be accompanied by ambassadors of the North Atlantic Council.
