Amid questions involving the Balkans and Europe, concerning the American military presence, a strong warning comes from the former commander of the commander NATO, James Stavridis.
According to him, the end of the NATO is a matter of time, and Europe must be prepared for US withdrawal.
But while the United States is ensuring that at the moment it has no intention of making movement of troops from the Balkans, former NATO Commander James Stavridis warns that the end of the Transatlantic Alliance is a matter of time.
In an editorial for %s BloombergHe says that the skeptical and divisive rhetoric coming from the US and Europe in the first days of Donald Trump's second mandate shows that the time has come to think about what the geopolitical world will look like if the US withdraws.
While praising that the US withdrawal from NATO would be a mistake of epic proportions, Stavridis mentions a series of influential people who are defending the idea of leaving the US, which makes the option a real opportunity.
According to former NATO commander if the alliance is dissolved or if it survives without the US we will probably have a European Treaty Organisation based on NATO, but it leaves the United States.
Canada may choose to stay... but this would, however, be unexplored ground before as no state has fully withdrawn from NATO earlier. According to him, the end of the NATO will not be a good thing, for both sides of the Atlantic.
