Officials of the main customs office in Dortmund have detained two illegal workers at a hotel-restorant in Netphene. Customs had received a corresponding announcement.

A woman (with Kosovo citizenship) fled the kitchen and tried to avoid control, but was caught by customs officers, broadcast albinfo.ch. When her personal data was checked, it turned out Kosovo had no right to work. By illegally working, she has lost her right to stay.

The same goes for another Kosovo citizen, who was also employed in the kitchen. Their passports were confiscated and handed over to the immigration authorities. The two Kosovars now must leave the country within a short term, the main customs office communique reportedly says.

Illegal employment: risk of fine of up to 500,000 euros exists

“Such circumstances could result in a large fine, writes wp.de. Illegal employment of foreigners could be fined to 500 thousand euros”, explains the press spokeswoman for the main customs office in Dortmund, Andrea Münch.

Since the two employees were not registered to social insurance, the employer also faces criminal prosecution, albinfo.ch.

Unannounced controls should be expected at any time, especially in sectors that are particularly sensitive to undeclared work and breaking rules for minimum wage”, the spokeswoman adds.
