Part of NATO Chief Mark Rutte's speech:
Dear Vjosa, thank you for your warm words.
I'm here to visit KFOR personnel and all northern Council supporters
Today's presence here is a crystal clear demonstration of NATO's steadfast commitment, for long-term security throughout Kosovo and the stability of the region.
We just had a productive discussion about the security situation in Kosovo as well as the region. NATO has supported peace and stability in the Western Balkans for already 30 years. Our dedication remains stable today by KFOR, which is the longest and largest mission in its excellent leadership.
Our troops worked incessantly to provide a safe environment for all the people.
In addition, KFOR's liaison teams continue to support other security institutions, education, training, etc.
A more secure Western Balkan region means more security for the entire NATO area. We need to know what we have before us.
Long-term decades of peace influence cannot be left aside. And in that sense we hope to have deep co-operation even between Kosovo institutions and KFOR in this direction.
NATO will continue to play its role, in its mandate for security for all. We do this in close co-ordination with the Kosovo Police and the EU mission, EULEX.
When we say that, stability in the region depends on all sides choosing diplomacy before violence.
The solution to long-term peace is political. In this direction NATO will fully support the normalisation of the EU-led relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
This is the only way to resolve unresolved issues to ensure stable future.
And to push this dialogue forward, both sides must show flexibles towards appropriate compromise. I fully understand that this requires difficult decisions, but we need to see that broader look. A little to benefit everyone. This is the message I want to highlight in front of all the parties they belong to in the region./Periscopi/
