Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin for peace talks only after they have agreed to a joint plan with US and European leaders.
At a event under the Security Conference in Munich, Zelensky said the fight with Russia strengthened unity between Europe and the US, and he is proud that Ukraine is part of such strong “Europe”.
He adds that it is important not to lose “this unity”, the BBC writes.
“Making a peace agreement without Ukraine or Europe is not a good idea”, he continues, referring to US President Donald Trump, who has said Wednesday he had spoken with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and that the pair agreed to start negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
There were later reports asking whether Ukraine would be present in those talks, which Russia later said “probably” would be.
Zelensky will meet with US Vice President JD Vance in Munich later in the day.
