Specialised Chambers in The Hague have described the absence of an accused in court hearings as a common case because of deteriorating health conditions.
However, the Spicised Chambers have declined to comment more on the state of health of former President Hashim Thaci, who failed to appear in the Senate today.
Specialised rooms have described Thaci's case as ordinary, adding that the accused are entitled not to attend the session.
Because of privacy, we cannot comment beyond what is mentioned at the public court hearing. I can tell you, in general, it wasn't unusual for the accused in different cases to miss individual hearings if they didn't feel good that day. In such cases, the rules predict hearings can continue in the absence of an accused if he gives up the right to be present”, said the response of the Specialised Chambers in a response to Paparaci.
Thaci missed the court hearing today, for according to his defender, Luka Misetiq, Thaci was not well.
“The only communication, which has not been good because of health and had to meet with a doctor”, he said.
After that, Misethic was asked to communicate with Thaci to understand whether he will join or grant permission for the session to continue without his presence.
Meanwhile, Thaci and Wessel made the decision today to continue custody.
