Two sessions scheduled for this week in case of Thaci and others

In Kosovo Specialised Chambers ( There will be no hearings in The Hague on Thursday and Friday as planned in the trial of Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselin, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi. This was made known during the conference on the outcome of the case, where it was also discussed [...]
This was made known during the conference on the performance of the case in this case, where time schedules and testing procedures were discussed, as well as other planning related to the closure of the court case in this case, reports the “Justice Trust“.
Speaking of non-pronounced motions, prosecutor Matt Halling announced that one has submitted it yesterday, adding that they will make further motions to be filed during the following days.
The most anticipated motion, according to Prosecutor Halling, is the one for the General Staff with about 500 materials. He said there would be some 300 materials for the Pacific Zone.
The latest “will be much smaller than these, but I don't know how much”, he said.
The announcement of these motions, the prosecutor said they would make it by mid-March.
Thaci's lawyer, Luka Misetic, said it is a problem for defence teams to respond to SPS motions with so much volume material for a short period of time.
Wessel's lawyer, Rodney Dixon, predicted that the SPS will not close the evidence submission on April 15th if they continue to file motions they need to answer.
Judge Charles Smith said the conclusion of the evidence presentation is when all the witnesses and evidence the prosecution has appeared.
This does not require that we respond to any motion (within this period)”, Smith said.
Lawyer Dixon demanded sufficient deadlines to respond to all motions.
“Because some of them can surrender no sooner than April 15th and you have to make a decision on to”, Dixon said.
We think the rule predicts that you will continue to be constantly informed about what will be submitted and be able to say yes or not to file a motion under Rule 130. We will do everything we can to get answers... we want to follow the rules”, the judge said.
As far as witnesses are concerned, Dixon said that their calculations have shown that there are 10 witnesses to be heard in the March bloc. According to him, that number is too big to prepare.
He asked to be informed by the SPS how many witnesses he would call in so that defence preparations can be made.
We wanted a deadline to know how many witnesses will be heard”, Dixon said.
And prosecutor James Pace said the number the lawyer mentioned for the witnesses left to hear is correct.
“We don't think the ten witnesses will be heard in the March block, nor will they be heard after this date. Seting a deadline, this is arbitrary because the problems we face you well understand; there are problems with witness co-operation, witness safety, especially with the co-operation of third states”, the prosecutor said.
Misetic said that it is not arbitrary to set deadlines because the regulation says until next week it should make Z known The SP is calling for the March block.
While, as far as defence motions are concerned under the 130th Rule, Misetic said they will prepare but are not sure whether they will. Dixon said similarly, adding that he will likely turn himself in.
The “will be given sufficient time for final file”, he said.
