The KPM through this communique was once again urged by the media to respect obligations regarding the election process, respectively, avoiding any reporting that could conflict with election silence rules and damage the voting process.
KKPM invites all licensed (OSHMA) to implement legal obligations by Head V III of the Law for General Elections No. 08/L-228 and regulation of KPM-2024/03 for media obligations during the election campaign.
As made known in the statement: “Article 52, paragraph 1 and 2 of the Law for General Elections, Media-Inclusion (”) stipulates:
1. No person or spirit medium broadcasts or publishes any material pertaining to campaign activity during the period that starts with opening the locations until their official closure.
2. There is no publication or broadcast of public opinion research results involving the election campaign, including the exit to the polls, during the period that starts twenty-four hours before the official closure of the deployments and until the closure of the election process.
Respecting OSHMA's election silence, except it is a legal obligation, helps voters exercise their legal and constitutional right to vote freely. Therefore, any breach of election silence by the OSHMAs, in this very important electoral period, can interfere with the will and orientation of citizens for exercising the right to vote according to their free and democratic definition.
KPM is monitoring program content (24/7) of O MMAs, to assess their compliance with the legal framework, to contribute to strengthening democracy in our country, in this election process that is important for the future of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
