Why Independence was declared on Sunday ʹArsim Bajrami shows why

Arsim Bajrami, one of the founders of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of Kosovo, has shared some exclusive details about historic moments marking the declaration of independence.

One of the most interesting details has been that, initially, it was thought that only four state leaders would sign the Declaration of Independence, but Bajrami insisted that all MPs should be the ones who signed it, stressing that “Independence and Declaration are people's deeds, and MPs are elected by the people, so they should sign it”, he said in Kosova FM Clan.

Another detail was the decision to declare independence on Sunday, a day of rest.

Bajrami stressed that this has been a careful step to avoid the possibility of any intervention from Serbia, as well as to prevent any possible resolution from one of the five UN Security Council member states, which could bring an emergency meeting against independence.

This step, according to him, has had strong US support, which was intended to surprise China and Russia as well.
