And the European Union is watching especially closely as Trump has already signalled its intention to impose tariffs on the bloc, foreign media write, the Telegraph reads.
A European Commission spokesman told Euronews on Sunday that the EU “regrets the US decision to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China”.
“At the moment we are unaware of setting further tariffs for EU products. Our trade and investment relations with the United States are the most important in the world... We should seek to strengthen this relationship”, the spokesman said.
The European Commission has earlier stated that the overall tariffy measures hurt workers and consumers. The tariffs create unnecessary economic cuts and promote inflation. They are harmful to all sides”.
According to Euronews, the spokesman continued to explain that open markets and respect international trade regulations “are essential for a strong and sustainable economic growth”.
“The EU strongly believes that low tariffs promote growth and economic stability within a strong and rules-based trade system. However, The EU will firmly respond to any trade partner who unfairly or arbitraryly sets the tariff for EU goods”, he concluded.
