Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky said a delegation of his state, led by Security Council Secretary Rustem Umedrov, has headed towards the United States to continue talks on reaching an agreement to end the war with Russia. Umerov headed the Ukrainian delegation after chief negotiator, [...]
Umerov headed the Ukrainian delegation after chief negotiator, Zelensky's staff chief, Andriy Yermak, resigned the day before after anti-corruption investigators raided his office and home.
Zelensky said he expects the results of previous meetings with the US in Geneva, which took place last weekend, now to “concreet” in Sunday's talks.
These meetings enabled Ukraine to submit its proposals after US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll presented American proposals to leaders in Kiev almost two weeks ago.
“Rustem delivered a report today, and the task is clear: to work quickly and with substance for the steps needed to end the” war, Zelensky wrote on X.
Yermak told New York Post several hours after resigning that it is “going to front”.
“I am an honest and respectable man”, he said.
Ukraine is facing pressure from Washington to accept the conditions of a peace agreement, while Zelensky has been in the most difficult political and military situation since the first days of the Russian invasion in 2022. / REL/
