RTK workers continue two-hour strike

Kosovo Radio Television workers (RTK) even today continue the general strike due to non-paying wages.

Kosovo Radio Television Workers' Unions (SPERTK) have announced that public broadcaster workers are in poor social condition, as well as RTK's operation, is “returned to the margin”, citing the situation unacceptable.

Likewise, the union has stressed that the strike will continue and calls on all workers for full support in their actions, which it considers “rights and legal resources”.

The head of the RTK Workers' Union, Gezim Bimbashi, has yesterday declared there has been no reaction or signal from the Kosovo Government for resolving the situation.

According to him, despite continued demands and numerous addresses, institutions have not taken concrete steps. He has expressed surprise how the government manages to find solutions and financial means for other issues, including elections, but not for RTK, even though the public broadcaster has a separate budget.

He has stressed that an initiative by Finance Minister Iron Murati would suffice to proceed with the necessary means for RTK. According to him, the situation has been so heavy that about half of the workers are in danger of getting out of work because they are not paid for their work.

Bimbashi has reiterated the call to Kurti Government to find solutions in the near future. He has stressed that RTK workers are not involved in politics and that the strike is only aimed at seeking a fundamental right.

The SPARTK leader has warned that the lack of institutional action, including the delay in passing the new RTK law, has led the public broadcaster to a serious crisis. He has also called on the political parties of the future legislature to adopt the law and ensure RTK's continuation of work.

He has recalled that RTK has the lowest public media budget in the region and that it continues to operate with 2.2m euros less, tools that were removed five years ago./Periscopi/
