“The two members of the National Guard were shot near the Farragut West subway station, not far from the White House, about 14:15 (19:15 GMT)”, authorities said at a news conference about two and a half hours after the incident. Please send your prayers to those brave warriors who are in critical condition and their families”, Patel said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon”.
Bowser said she was also sending her “views and prayers to the guards' families and to the guards who are in critical condition to a local hospital”.
The deputy executive chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, Jeffrey Carroll, said that “members of the Washington National Guard were on a high-looking patrol... when a suspect came from a corner and a firearm shot at them”.
