Montenegrin police arrest mercenaries who fought for Russia against Ukraine, seize an additional amount of weapons

Montenegrin police have hit a network of mercenaries who had fought for Russia in Ukraine. According to reports by local media in Podgorica, Danko Savovic, a Bosnia and Herzegovina citizen with permanent residence in Montenegro, has been arrested, which according to police, had a million and a half euros in his account. Savic was arrested as part of the operation coded “Lugansk” During his search at his apartment and other facilities, police seized 125 pounds [12.2 kg] of explosives. The operation has so far included 12 people and 13 checkpoints in Danilovgrad, Niksic and Podgorica.

Police announced that a total of 24 firearms have been seized, over 1,000 rounds, several frames, nine knives, swords and quays, as well as uniforms, flags and other distinctive signs of criminal groups and organisations.

Among the confiscated items were bulletproof vests, helmets, communications equipment, SIM cards and “Cosaque Montenegrin Brotherhood IDs”, often with different names.

According to police, evidence shows that Saviq had served at the Russian Federation's foreign military facilities in Luhansk from the beginning of 2023 to early 2025. It allegedly was motivated mainly by financial profit and during this period earned 1.5m euros, reports Express, broadcast Periscope.
