Hoxhaj: Global danger increasing, Kosovo needs serious leadership

Former Kosovo Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj said the election of the new US president should be seen as strategic opportunities for Kosovo, stressing the role he had earlier in NATO enlargement in the Balkans. We have a president in the United States who needs to be seen [...]
“We have a president in the United States who needs to be seen in Kosovo as an opportunity, because it is he who in his first term joined northern Macedonia and Montenegro in NATO, and who has a concrete heritage in the Balkans as far as NATO enlargement is concerned. There's a Senate and a Congress, which are extremely pro-opening NATO,” Hoxhaj said.
He warned that the security dynamics in Europe are accelerating, while developments in Ukraine remain unpredictable.
“We live at a time when Russia has a more division every month and the war in Ukraine can possibly be closed this year, it could be concluded by maybe 2030, and thus there could be a situation that could have an even broader war,” said Hoxhaj.
Recalling his early warnings about the war in Ukraine, he stressed that global tensions could affect Kosovo as well.
I am one of those who spoke a year before the war in Ukraine, which may have war in Ukraine, and I am afraid this international political situation can be complicated, it can be complicated and we can continue our internal struggle on how we have seen it during 2025, even in 2026,” he said.
Hoxhaj added that European countries are already preparing for protection, so Kosovo must have political and strategic clarity.
Europe is preparing for protection. Therefore, I think who can lead the government, what electoral platforms we should have, what new way of thinking we should have in 2025, will depend on how much this country has a responsible political class which the political class knows to stand up for in 2026,” he pointed out. /Periscope
