According to information provided by Washington police and local media, the two members of the National Guard opened fire on attackers before being shot.
It is not yet clear whether the guard's sides were the target of the attack or whether they intervened to prevent a shootout.
Shots occurred on the edge of 17th and H Street NW, a familiar area and near the White House.
