As “reportsJutarnji”, the flag was raised on the occasion of the birth of one of the workers' child, but some local residents claim similar actions repeated and perceived as provocation.
The incident was immediately reported to authorities, who intervened and removed the flag. Police initiated further procedures.
The Casthars community in a reaction has said that such events have not occurred until now, but that they are forced to react when it comes to legal violations. The municipality refers to Article 26 of the Law for Acts Against Order and Public Peace, which stipulates that a person can be punished “if he displays a foreign state flag without general calls from a socio-political organisation or without the approval of competent administrative body or police”.
We reacted immediately as we saw the flag on the construction site and informed the police of everything. According to our regulations, the showing of a foreign country flag in this way is not allowed and competent services are now conducting their procedure. This is the first time we have faced such a situation in Kazelir and we expect the rules of the Republic of Croatia to be respected”, said small municipality chairman Giuliano Petrovic.
