A new study by Hong Kong University has revealed that oleic acid, a component present in olive oil and dried fruit, can strengthen immune cells that combat carcinogenic cells. According to the New Atlas report, this healthy fatty acid can help the body create a first line of protection against infections and tumor growth.
During the experiment, researchers isolated human cells and exposed them to various types of fatty acids usually found in palm oil, meat, and milk products. They observed survival, metabolism, and the ability of these cells to destroy tumoral cells.
The results were hopeful: the cells exposed to oleic acid remained fully functional, with stable mitoconds and active tumor fighting mechanisms. Otherwise, the cells exposed to palmic acid, which is found in animal fats, suffered collapses, writes A2 CNN, the Periscope broadcast.
Professor Wenwei of HKMed Medical School said that the inclusion of foods rich in oleic acid, such as olive oil and avocado, can improve the body's <x0m> immune surveillance” and help in more effective treatments against cancer.
However, researchers point out that these findings have been proven only in laboratory models and mice, and have not yet been confirmed to humans. However, their findings strengthen the idea that healthy natural fats can have a major impact on cellular health and cancer protection.
