Ukrainian-elect Emissar says Trump wants a fair end to war

Dud by Donald Trump for the post of envoy for Ukraine and Russia, said the US president-elect would take Kiev's interests into account when it began work on reaching a war-ending agreement and would aim for the solution to be right. “People need [...]
“People need to understand that he is not trying to give something [Russian president, Vladimir] Putin or Russians” said Keith Kellogg, a retired Lieutenant general whom Trump has chosen to post his envoy for Ukraine and Russia and tasked him with leading negotiations to end the war.
“He is trying to save Ukraine and save its sovereignty”, Kellogg said during an interview for Fox News on January 8th. “He will make sure he is right, and he has repeatedly said that”, including Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky.
Trump during the presidential campaign last year said he would end the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours after taking office. Now he hopes to end the fighting within six months.
“I hope that it will happen before six months have passed”, Trump said during a news conference on January 7th, when asked whether he could solve the conflict for half a year.
Kellogg said he prefers a shorter period of time, in a period of 100 days from Trump's inauguration as president on January 20th. According to emissary, he and Trump want to end the war as soon as possible.
Kellogg refused to disclose any of his conversations with Trump about the war, saying Trump “speaks itself” and more information on the subject will be made public after the inauguration.
He hinted Trump and Putin are working to negotiate.
“We will set the conditions... and he will then be in a position to talk to Putin and also with President Zelensky, and I think we will reach a solution in a short period of time”, Kellogg said.
However, he was not asked about delaying a visit he was expected to hold this month in Kiev and other European capitals. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Syhbika announced on January 7th that this visit will be re-planned.
During the interview, Kellogg criticised US President Joe Biden for not communicating with Putin, saying they have been more than two years since they talked. Trump, on the other hand, speaks to both opponents and allies, he said.
He knows he has to talk to people to reach a final solution, and that's what we're going to do”, Kalogg said. / REL
