United States President-elect Donald Trump has again said he will make Ukraine and Russia end the war of almost three years.
He also stressed that he would ask the Taliban to return its military equipment worth billions of dollars, which had been left behind in Afghanistan in 2021.
“I will end the war in Ukraine, stop this mess in the Middle East and prevent the Third World War”, Trump said at the Capital Arena gym in Washington on Sunday, a day before taking his oath as president.
He did not explain how he would achieve these.
Analysts say it will be difficult to conclude the war in Ukraine soon, because Russian President Vladimir Putin believes he is winning and is not urged to stop the war.
During this rally, Trump made a summary of the goals he claims to meet during the next four years in and abroad, including army strengthening.
Trump will be sworn in as 47th president on January 20th at noon. The ceremony will be held inside Congress building for the first time in 40 years because of freezing weather.
During his speech, Trump claimed that the United States is giving the Taliban in Afghanistan <x0 billion dollars a year” and that it will stop this if the extremist group does not turn billions of dollars into American equipment.
And I say, if we pay billions of dollars a year, we have to tell them we won't give them the money unless our military equipment is returned to us, Trump said.
The United States left valuable military equipment worth about $7 billion in Afghanistan when they withdrew in August 2021 after the Taliban regained control of the capital, Kabul.
Regaining power from the Taliban has led to a drastic economic downturn, where more than half of the country's nearly 24 million residents need humanitarian aid as food, according to USAID, the American Development Agency.
The United States has allocated more than $2.1 billion to Afghanistan since taking power from the Taliban, according to USAID.
Since taking power, the Taliban have been sentenced by Western leaders, international organisations and activists for serious human rights violations, especially against women and girls.
