Tens of police officers, ambulances and rescue teams are in the river. As reported CBS, quoting police on the ground, at least 18 troops have been found so far. The search is continuing.
John Donnelly, chief of the fire department and emergency services in Washington DC, says this is a very complex operation and “the conditions there are extremely difficult”.
Donnelly points to the freezing conditions and the darkness in the water as the challenge of reaching potential survivors.
