Specialised Chambers spokeswoman Angela Greep has spoken of the conditions former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders have in The Hague.
Greep said the regulation and conditions at the detention centre have been compiled in co-ordination with the Red Cross, so that, according to it, the implementation of the highest international standards will be ensured.
But according to Greep, in relation to the visiting regime, each prisoner can use 10 days each month for visits.
“As far as the stops Thaci, Veselin and Selim were placed in December 2023 because of the transcripts the Prosecutor has handed over, and under which it is claimed that these three accused could reveal confidential information in their visitors. The bans apply only to what is needed for unprivileged visits - personal visits - but do not apply to private visits, whether to marriage mates or children or even to lawyers”.
The privileged “come under active monitoring. This means that, due to the easing of monitoring, privileged visits will be reduced to five for the 30-month period. This does not include private visits with lawyers or those with videos, and still these visits can only be realised by one person”, Greep said in an interview for Klan Kosovo.
She also spoke of rules subject to the detainees being held at The Hague, saying they are the same that apply throughout the Netherlands.
The detained “submits to the same rules that are implemented throughout the Netherlands, at least for medical standards. There's a doctor inside the detention center who visits the detainees regularly.
“They may apply to be visited by a doctor or subject to health care. They may also seek special medical treatment and may request medical services from abroad, and if they do not have enough financial means to pay for this special treatment, they may require registers and specialized rooms to pay for them. However, we do not give in if this happened because of privacy”, she said.
