EU enlargement, with six Western Balkan states, Ukraine and Moldova, is one of the priorities, reportedly based on their individual achievements.
But in the Western Balkans is the Republic of Kosovo, which stands worst on its European integration path. For two years now, the application has been submitted to receive candidate status, but there is no movement from Brussels.
In an exclusive response to Klan Kosova from Poland's government, which has Prime Minister Donald Tusk, they indicated their plan to move forward with Kosovo's application.
It is closely linked to the normalisation of reports with Serbia.
” There are no criteria in itself for Kosovo's application to move forward, even though progress in dialogue can help, to some extent, your case. By saying this, relations with Belgrade must improve, some key conditions outlined in this year's European Commission report on Kosovo must be met, including all Brussels Accords plus the Ohrid Annex. Avoiding any provocative action that leads to tension and violence, as well as unilateral decisions on either side affecting stability and security on the ground, can also be useful”, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Warsaw.
From the Polish MPJs, they hope that little progress will be possible in terms of Kosovo's EU membership application, but that they add it will depend on many factors, independent of the Polish presidency of the EU Council.
In view of this, unfortunately, the possibilities and prospects for Kosovo's application to move forward, at least at the moment, seem very limited. As you are fully aware, the fact that five EU member states do not recognise Kosovo also does not help your European aspirations”.
The five non-convenient Kosovo states, independent and sovereign, are Spain, Greece, Romania, Cyprus and Slovakia.
