Her office has not provided more details about the visit.
Photos of two conservative leaders close to each other are published on the front pages of all Italian newspapers.
Mellon is one of the world leaders, including Canada's prime minister, Justin Trudeau and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who visited Trump prior to his inauguration at the White House on January 20th.
Mellon has accomplished this year shortly before US President Joe Biden starts a four-day visit to Rome.
In photos published by Melon's office, she's also seen at the meeting with Florida Senator Marco Rubio, nominated by Trump for US Secretary of State. /euronews
