KFOR Commander General Enrico Bordoniti has spoken about the situation in the north.
In an interview for Serbian media Kosovo OnlineBordonni has reaffirmed that sending KSF to the north requires KFOR's preliminary consent.
“According to existing pledges with Kosovo, the deployment of the Kosovo Security Forces in northern Kosovo requires initial consent by KFOR. We appreciate Kosovo's continued respect for this obligation, especially in times of increased tensions. Kosovo police, including its specialised units, can operate throughout Kosovo without the need for KFOR's consent. However, we expect timely and meaningful consultations on any action by the Kosovo Security Forces or the Kosovo Police that could affect the security environment and have direct implications for regional stability.He said:
When asked about Prime Minister Albin Kurti's request for KSF deployment in the north after the explosion in the Iber-Lepenci channel, Bordoni has had an interesting answer.
“In the case of Zubin Potok, there was no need for KSF deployment, as Kosovo Police, with the support of EULEX and KFOR, were fully able to manage the situation.He said:
