Each year on June 14th in many countries of the world, “World Blood Violence Day” is organised.
In May 2005, 58 health ministers from around the world made a unanimous declaration of commitment and support to voluntary blood donations during the World Health Assembly.
Through the WHA58.13 Resolution, they designated World Blood Givers Day as an annual event to be held annually on June 14th.
The resolution urges member states to implement and support well-organised, nationally co-ordinated and stable blood programmes with proper regulatory supervision so that enough safe blood can be collected to meet patients' needs.
This year's slogan commemorates the historic 20th anniversary moment and the deep impact of blood donation on the lives of patients and donors. The campaign serves as an opportunity to express gratitude to the blood plasma and trumpet donors in the world for their lifesaving donations.
Moreover, it calls for action, motivating more individuals to join the global flow of blood donation.
Blood, in addition to an important component of our body, is a treatment that cannot be produced by the pharmaceutical industry, so its only source is gifts from people who have good wills occasionally and free of charge.
The need for blood is enormous as blood transfusions or its components often serve to save the life of someone who has an accident or surgery, writes Kosova Prees.
