While Hungary recognises Kosovo's independence, it does not offer the same level of political support as other countries that recognise the small Balkan state. In addition to the fiveth of the EU -- Spain, Greece, Slovakia, Romania and Cyprus -- who refuse to recognise Kosovo, the Hungarian state under Prime Minister Viktor Orban maintains the harshest stance in Kosovo, writes Albanian Post.
At the time when Kosovo engages in two parallel processes to join the EU and the KiE, in light of Hungarian Minister Peter Szijárto's pledge to Serbia in January 2023, it should be considered the possibility that Hungary can adopt a consistent stance and repeatedly vote against the European future of Kosovo”, Perez stressed.
Kosovo submitted documentation for EU membership in December 2022, but the EU has yet to make a decision on how to proceed further. As for the CoE membership, although supported by the overwhelming majority of deputies in the KiE Parliamentary Assembly, four Hungarians -- including those from the ranks of “Fidesz” -- voted against Kosovo.
