In an interview with Japan's news agency, Kyodo News, Zelensky said it is difficult to force back some of the occupied Russian parts of his country, including the Crimean Peninsula Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, such as things, writes foreign media.
Our army lacks the strength to do so. This is true”, Zelensky was quoted as saying. “We need to find diplomatic solutions”.
He stressed that such steps could only be considered “when we know we are strong enough” to prevent Russia from launching a new aggression against Ukraine.
Zelensky's comments show a shift from his long held stance that his country will fight to regain the entire territory seized by Russia.
Zelensky has called on the outgoing administration of Joe Biden to help convince NATO members to invite Ukraine to join the alliance, while Russia continues to make profits in the field of battle.
He said the conflict has entered a complicated “perietion”.
In October, he unveiled a so-called victory plan, which contains a step some key Western allies have so far refused to accept -- Ukraine's invitation to join NATO before the end of the war.
