The Central Election Commission (KQZ) has not certified the Serbian List, following concerns raised by representatives of the ruling Vetevendosje Movement that, this party does not recognise the state of Kosovo, and does not refer to it by the official name, but as “Kosovo and Metohia”.
“We are concerned by the apparent involvement of politically motivated criteria in the Certificate process conducted by the Central Election Commission. Such actions undermine the fundamental democratic principles for free and fair elections, and open the door to the subjective political influence for electoral process”, An American Embassy spokesman in Pristina said, in some responses to Radio Free Europe.
The European Union office in Pristina has said it regrets the CEC's decision, praising that all candidates should be able to participate in free and fair elections.
“Certificate Process must be made on the basis of legal standards and procedures in line with laws, rather than on political considerations”.
German Ambassador to Kosovo Jorn Rohde has said he shares the same concerns with the US and the European Union for the non-competitive Serbian List.
The equal implementation of the law for all is essential. The certificate process is a formal procedure that should not be politicized”, He said through a post on X platform known earlier as Twitter.
The Serbian List's certificate has only voted CEC chairman Kreshnik Radoniqi against LV members Sami Kurteshi and Alban Krasniqi, while the others have abstained.
The US has called on all parties that are not satisfied with the CEC's decisions to address adequate mechanisms, such as the Election Panel for Anxiety and Parashtre (PZAP).
“The CEC has an important role in monitoring elections, to ensure that the law is implemented fairly and impartially. Its responsibilities should be deeply based on legal procedures and not on political consideration”It was said among other things in the American Embassy's response.
Serbian Lists has called the CEC's decision illegal and has said the key statement will be made by party chairman Zlatko Ellek in Tuesday morning.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq has claimed on Monday that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is trying “to eliminate the only opponent” in Kosovo, the Serbian List.
The Serbian list has said it will participate in the elections after a period of boycotting political processes in Kosovo.
In 2022, members of this party had collectively resigned from Kosovo institutions, as a sign of opposition to Kosovo authorities' decisions to extend authority across the country's territory.
