Full response:
The government of the Republic of Kosovo strongly condemns efforts by Serbian authorities to stop the donation dedicated to subsidising Albanian farmers in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja. This donation, initiated at the request of the Albanian National Council, aims to improve the life of the Albanian community and support the region's economic development took into account that even further municipalities in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja are among the most underdeveloped municipalities in Serbia, among the poorest with high unemployment, and especially among young people.
On October 26, 2024, the Albanian National Council announced the public call to farmers, accepting over 1,178 applications. Meanwhile, Serbia's Ministry for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue has intervened to block this process, seeking to annul the decision on public calling. Just on December 10th, on International Human Rights Day, Albanians in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja have been displaced from the possibility of aid from the Republic of Kosovo.
Serbia has no right to prevent our support for Albanians in the Presevo Valley. We invite the European Union, the OSCE, the Quint states and other international organisations to monitor this situation and act to protect the rights of Albanians in the Presevo Valley.
The Kosovo government remains committed to helping Albanians in the Presevo Valley and to protect their rights and national, cultural and language identity.
