Lezha's former mayor, Fran Frokaj, who was sentenced Monday with a decision by the JKKO Appeal, reportedly fled to avoid arrest.
Sources suggest that after the SPAK issued the warrant for executing the two-year prison sentence, the former senior official has not been found in his apartment by authorities.
According to Special Prosecutor's Information and verifications on T System IMS, Frokaj is still on Albania's territory. Research is in place on his finding and applying the court's decision.
The former local official was found guilty of abuse of office in connection with the removal of property in the area known as Rana and Throw. Frokaj was sentenced to the first rate of 1 year and 4 months in prison, while Appeals sentenced him to 2 years and 8 months of freedom.
In addition to the Frokats, the court changed its decision on Blidar Cara, whom it had first cleared of the charges. Appeal sentenced him to 1 year and 4 months of freedom. Eugene Mema was also given the same decision, but prison sentence was suspended and testing service was scheduled for the next five years.
An area of 660,000 square feet [60,000 sq m] in the Hulla area was confiscated and passed on to the state. Investigations into the embezzlement of this area, worth about 13m euros, began in 2019. The investigation has found that employees of the former Sherko Community Administration, between them and Fran Frokaj, who was mayor of the municipality at that time, have favoured registering 82 real estates for some people.
Frokaj has also been sentenced by the Court of Shkodra, as well as for the alienation of property in the area of Runa of Strygin. He was released from his cell shortly after taking advantage of amnesty, but will now return to prison to serve the new sentence. /euronews/
