Speaking at a conference for reporters in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said relations with the US are on the verge of collapse.
“In the context of increased confrontation... travel to the United States privately or for official needs carry serious risks”, Zakharova said, broadcast Reuters.
“We urge you to continue to refrain from traveling to the United States and their Allied satellite states including, first of all, Canada and the countries of the European Union with certain exceptions to these” holidays, she said.
Russian and American diplomats say relations between the two countries are worse than at any time since the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, due to disagreements over the war in Ukraine.
They reached the peak of the crisis last month, when the US and Great Britain allowed Ukraine to use their missiles to hit Russian territory.
As a result, Russia lowered the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons.
