All MPs' candidates pass verification filter to Kosovo Judiciary Council

All candidates for MPs in the February 9th elections have passed the filter of the Kosovo Judiciary Council. So none of them have been sentenced in the last three years to court rulings of formal criminal offenses with one or more years in effective prison. So said CEC spokesman Valmir [...]
So said CEC spokesman Valmir Elez, in a response to Gazeta Express.
“Under Article 30 of the Law for General Elections, among other things, it is predicted that it cannot be certified as a candidate who “has been sentenced in the last three years with a firm form decision for criminal work, with one or more years effective” imprisonment, so we have asked the Kosovo Judicial Council to submit in proportion to this legal restriction. The answer we have received from the Kosovo Judiciary Council is that none of the 28 political subject candidates between the 1,000 and 280 do not conflict with this part of the law, Elez said.
The CEC has already started with the certificate of political subjects and candidates for MPs. 11 political subjects with 606 candidates have been certified so far, while 17 subjects with 674 candidates are also pending.
“According to the CEC, during the period for application of political subjects for certificateification and surrender of the candidate list for MPs to participate in the Kosovo Assembly Assembly (September 11th, 2024), have applied: 28 political subjects, of them: 20 political parties; 5 coalitions; 2 civic initiatives and 1 independent candidate. The total number of candidates for MPs, representing these political subjects, is 10,000 and 280 candidates. So far, the CEC has certified 11 political subjects with 606 candidates for deputy, while 17 political subjects with 674 candidates are also pending. ”
Elez had told Express a few days earlier that he has asked the Kosovo Judiciary Council to submit to them the names that have been sentenced in the last three years to court rulings in a formal form of one or more years in effective prison.
The CEC, except for the CEC, has also asked for verification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diasporas, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Election Panel for Anxiety and Parashtes.
“Also, this under specifys that the candidate cannot be certified a person who is an official of the Election Panel for Anxiety and Parastance; by the court's decision, including the PZAP decision, has been denied the right to be a candidate; has failed to pay the fine imposed by PZAP, or the CEC; or has failed to abide by any PZAP order. Therefore, we have asked PZAP to make verifications in relation to these legal restrictions. Article 30 of the Law for General Elections envisions that the candidate cannot be a person who is functional with special status on the basis of the Law in force for public officials or foreign service member and diplomat representative. To do the necessary verifications of these legal restrictions, we will co-operate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora. ”
