Union leaders said that if even further neglect is taken on the part of the Ministry of Education and Government, the union steps will be taken, not excluding general strikes as well.
Days earlier, representatives of the United Trade and Education and Culture Union have protested in front of the Ministry of Education and Government of Kosovo, demanding the realisation of their demands, which is one of them the signing of the new Kolective contract, the increase in wages, and voting of the law on pension schemes. And, in the absence of dialogue by the Government and the Ministry of Education, this union says it has been forced to engage a mediator, as the law predicts.
Deputy chairman of the Education Union Vjollca Shala told Radio Kosovo that even after the protest the Ministry of Education and Government have neglected them.
Even after the protest, there has been no reflection on the education ministry so far. On Wednesday, December 11th, the Education Union has engaged a legal medium, as the procedure requires. We will now wait according to the legal deadline, what the results will be after the commitment of the mediator”, she said.
Shala further added that if even this attempt to achieve dialogue with the ministry and Government, through legal mediators it will not bring results, this union will continue with the union steps, including strikes throughout the education system.
If we don't have this reflection even after the mediator's commitment, we will gather the SBASK Steering Council as the highest body in the middle of two conventions. The next steps will be decided at that meeting. Never ruled out the possibility of a business of union activities, like the general strike we had in 2022 on the entire educational system”, Shala said.
The SBASK has consistently pressed accusations against the Government of pressure on union and lack of readiness for dialogue. The charges have also been brought against the Government for canceling the collective contract and lack of readiness to sign a new agreement.
Radio Kosovo, despite efforts, has not been able to get an answer from the Ministry of Education if it will respond positively to the union for a meeting.
