Since 2022, Helsinki has been dealing with “manipulation” of underwater communication cables, dezinformation and presence of so-called Russian “shadowing” oil, which illegally transport Russian oil in violation of Western sanctions.
And the willingness to respond to the threat Russia poses is in Finnish DNA.
For decades, especially since the Soviet invasion of 1939, Finnishs have taken into account all kinds of possible threats to their sovereignty and survival.
Finnish government officials describe how in the wake of Ukraine's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a major “mental change” in Helsinki and neighbouring Stockholm.
In addition to military power, Finland has built several thousand civilian defence shelters to accommodate all 600,000 Helsinki residents with many others throughout the country.
