Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has asked European Commission Vice President Kaya Kallas to send an EU Mission for monitoring parliamentary elections scheduled for February 9th, 2025.
Osman's request has responded positively to Kallas, who has appointed Natalie Loiseau, a member of the European Parliament, as chief minister.
The “Election Observation Missions in Kosovo, at the request of its authorities, will demonstrate the EU's firm support for Kosovo in its efforts to further strengthen its democratic governance. The mission's presence on the ground aims to contribute to a comprehensive, reliable and transparent electoral process, allowing Kosovo voters to clearly express their” elections, the EU Foreign Action Report said.
The chairman, Loisau, said: “I am honoured to serve as Chairman of the EU Mission for Election Monitoring 2025 in Kosovo. The upcoming parliamentary elections will be the first to be held under a new election law, which has taken into account our earlier recommendations. I look forward to engaging with authorities, political parties, candidates, civil society and other interested electoral parties in Kosovo”.
